Administrative InformationAdministrative/biographical history Please follow the link from the creator name (above).Archival history/source of acquisition The material in this collection was received from various sources. Mr & Mrs Martin Salter (cousins of Joan Riviere) and the executors of Diana Riviere's estate donated photographs, JR's diary, papers and letters in 1990; this donation was negotiated by Athol Hughes. The photocopies of JR's will and her mother's diary, along with further photographic material, were donated by Athol Hughes in 2003; the originals for these documents are believed to be held by relatives in the United States. Other material was deposited by the Melanie Klein Trust.The letters from Joan Riviere to Mrs Phelps Brown (ref. P02-A-04) were donated by Judith Hopkins, daughter of Mrs Brown in 1988 and 2000 (Accession 1988-001, 2000-002 and 2000-003). The collection has previously been split up, with letters and some other items added to the archives' correspondence collection and photographs placed in the photograph collection, but all items were regrouped as a single Joan Riviere collection during recataloguing in 2006. Please note that any material from the Bulletin of the British Psychoanalytical Society is available only to members, students and guests of the Society.Reproduction conditions Photocopying is carried out at the discretion of the archivist and according to the archives’ photocopying policy, which is available on request. Copies of material still in copyright can be supplied for research use only. Written permission must be obtained from the archivist to publish or reproduce any material held in the archives. P04-C-E-05) and James & Alix Strachey (ref. P17-F-C-02).Elsewhere, the Sigmund Freud Archives at the Library of Congress hold the original letters from Sigmund Freud to Joan Riviere from which the items in P02-A-03 were translated, as well as the interviews between Riviere and K R Eissler referred to in P02-A-05. Also, the Melanie Klein collection at the Wellcome Library includes correspondence with Joan Riviere, including letters related to the Controversial Discussions (ref. PP/KLE).
