No information is known about the Schwarz/Harding families.

Archival history/source of acquisition

Donated by Elizabeth Harding in 1996 (Accession 1996-001). The letters were originally added to the archives' correspondence collection (refs. CBB/F31, CFB/F10 & CFF/F04) but recatalogued as a single collection in 2006.


Content and structure

Scope and Content

Eighteen brief personal letters and cards from Martha Freud, Anna Freud and Dorothy Burlington to members of the Schwarz family. The first item is a card from Martha Freud to Alice Schwarz in Jerusalem following the death of Sigmund Freud in 1939. The remaining letters are from Martha and Anna Freud to Elizabeth Harding (née Schwarz) and her husband Geoffrey Harding, except for one letter from Dorothy Burlington and two postcards signed by Dorothy Burlington and Anna Freud.

Open for consultation by bona fide researchers, subject to prior arrangement with the archivist and the signing of a reader's undertaking form. Please note that any material from the Bulletin of the British Psychoanalytical Society is available only to members, students and guests of the Society.
