Materials relating to the translation, editing and publication of the Standard Edition. The works, published jointly by the Hogarth Press and the Institute of Psychoanalysis, were translated from German texts under the general editorship of James Strachey in collaboration with Anna Freud and assisted by Alix Strachey and Alan Tyson. The final volume, number XXIV, Indexes and Bibliographies, was compiled by Angela Harris (née Richards) in collaboration with Alix Strachey. Many of the draft materials and notes are undated but, in the main, the Standard Edition project was carried out between 1949 and 1966, with the exception of Volume XXIV which was published in 1974.

Handwritten and carbon copy lists of corrections to the Standard Edition by Alix Strachey. Also included are her notes and queries about the corrections plus the original, heavily annotated folders. Two sets of unmarked photocopies of the lists have been discarded, but the annotated envelope in which they were held is included.

Handwritten materials, by Alix Strachey, relating to Volume XXIV of the Standard Edition. This volume was primarily compiled by Angela Harris and Alix Strachey in the late 1960s/early 1970s after the death of James Strachey.

Correspondence between both James and Alix Strachey and their friends, family and colleagues. The bulk of the correspondence (P17-F-A and P17-F-B) is related to the Stracheys' translations and publications and includes contracts and other legal documentation. The remaining material is correspondence concerning personal and professional matters (other than publications), plus letters and papers from professional bodies.

Correspondence between the Stracheys and their publishers (primarily The Hogarth Press, Imago Publishing, George Allen & Unwin and Routledge & Kegan Paul but also others), some of their collaborators (most notably Ernst Freud, representing Sigmund Freud Copyrights) and their respective legal representatives.
