ROSENFELD AND NARCISSISM: THE CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS - David Simpson
CLINICAL – THEORETICAL SEMINAR
No. of sessions: 5
Time: 8.15pm – 9.45pm
Day: Tuesday
Dates: November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
This course will examine the implications of Rosenfeld’s ideas on narcissism for clinical work with patients. The series will begin by examining, through key papers, theories that he developed on this subject, including his idea of narcissistic organisations and the distinction between destructive and libidinal aspects. The roles of the life and death instincts and of traumatic factors will be considered. The focus will be on the technical implications and participants will be invited to present their own clinical material for discussion.
DAVID SIMPSON is a Fellow of the Institute of Psychoanalysis and works in private practice.
Following a background in paediatrics he trained as a psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital and was a Consultant of the Child and Family Department at the Tavistock Clinic. He has published on autism and learning disabilities from a psychoanalytic perspective. He currently teaches on psychoanalytic theory and clinical practice.
