  Catherine Portuges 

Catherine Portuges is Director of the Inter-departmental Program in Film Studies and Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She has been working on Hungarian cinema for 15 years. She is the author of Screen Memories: the Hungarian Cinema of Marta Meszaros (1993), and of the forthcoming Cinema in Transition: Post-communist East-Central Europe. In various articles, she has examined issues of Jewish identity in contemporary cinema. She has also recently published in Cineaste an essay on Szabo's Sunshine.
