  Fiona Shaw

Fiona Shaw is one of the finest classical actresses. She has also a growing collection of film credits, - playing the pretentious Anglophile in The Butcher Boy (1997) and the headmistress in Three Men and a Little Lady (1990).

She won three Laurence Olivier Awards for best actress, two London Critics's Awards and one New York Critics's Award for her performance in TS Eliot's The Waste Land.

Fiona studied at RADA and has extensive experience with the Royal National Theatre, as well as credits for films as diverse as My Left Foot (1989) and Super Mario Brothers (1993). She was awarded an Officier des Arts et Lettres in France in 2000 and an honorary CBE in the 2001 New Years Honours.

Fiona Shaw was born and educated in County Cork, Ireland,  After a completing a BA degree in philosophy at University College Cork she went to London to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she was awarded the Bancroft Gold Medal.

Her theatre credits at the Royal National Theatre include: Julia in The rivals;
Shen Te Shui Ta in The good person of Szechuan; the woman in Machinal;
the title roles in Richard II and The prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Katharine in 'The taming of the shrew' and Elektra', Rosalind in 'As you like it'.

She has won a number of awards, including three Laurence Olivier Awards for best actress, two London Critics Awards and one New York Critics Award for her performance in TS Eliot's 'The Waste Land'.

Film and televison credits include 'My left foot', 'The butcher boy', Mind games', 'Hedda Gabler' and Gormenghast'.

Fiona Shaw has honorary doctorates from the National University of Ireland and Open University. She was awarded an Officier des Arts et Lettres in France in 2000 and an honorary CBE in the 2001 New Years Honours.
