1. Viewing
This site is best viewed on modern browsers with a
screen resolution of at least 800 x 600 with High Colour
(16 Bit) selected. The latest versions of these browsers
are available free and are best installed from cover-disks
widely available on computer magazines. The resolution and
text-size are correct when the top menu bar is on a single
line, and the entire width of a page
can be read without horizontal scrolling.
In addition, to optimise the size of the website on your
screen you can, with Internet Explorer, adjust the size of
the text under the 'view' menu of the browser. In Netscape
Navigator you can adjust the size of the text by pressing
CTRL and ] keys simultaneously. CTRL and [ keys reduce the
font size. This should be adjusted until the menu items
under the main banner and on the top menu-bar are
correctly aligned, so that all the items are in a single
line under the 'British Psychoanalytical Society' banner.
If you are using software supplied as part of Compuserve,
AOL or any other service-provider who supplies a
'front-end' windows application for running Microsoft
Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, you are advised
to use the option to use the External Browser if this is
available to you. Many internet sites cannot be viewed
properly with such third-party products.
2.
Navigation
The home page is also known as the
site's Frontpage. There is a brief Welcome statement and a
description of our Editorial Policy. There is also a link to a comprehensive listing of all qualified and
internationally recognised psychoanalysts working in the
UK, so that the public can check whether practitoners
claiming to be psychoanalysts in fact possess this
international recognition.
On the left hand side there is a
menu bar giving single-click access to the major sections
of the website. It is replicated on most pages throughout
the site. There is also a scrollable menu at the bottom of
the page, which is also to be found in the same position
on other sections. There is a also a search facility at
the bottom of most left-hand menu bars.
Most links are
grey and
turn black when the mouse hovers
on them.
3. Searching
Just enter your query terms in the search box provided
and click the "search" button. You can use
single terms or type in a whole sentence or phrase but try
to use discriminating terms that are likely to be within
the text of the documents you are searching for.

6. Saving documents
Some of our documents may be in MS Word
format. Depending on your browser
setup, clicking on the link may open the document in the
browser window. With large files, a delay can give the
impression that the document is not downloading.
If you prefer to save the document directly to your
hard drive:
-
PC users - right-click on the link, and then
select the save option.
-
Apple Mac users - point to the link and hold
down the mouse button, and then select the save option.
You can also add a page to either
the 'Links' bar of your browser or to the 'Favourites'
list.
