The IJP runs an internet discussion group focused around the journal's Psychoanalytic Controversies series of articles.

The latest Psychoanalytic Controversy between Jessica Benjamin and Vic Sedlak, on the the question of whether analysts should at times openly acknowledge to their patients that they have failed them, is now available for discussion.

Postings will appear on the message board as soon as they are received (unless sent overnight when they will appear the following day, or over the weekend when they will appear the following Monday) and replies and further contributions can be submitted by sending an email to ijpa@psychoanalysis.org.uk. Postings will not be instantaneous because of the need to moderate contributions.

Email summaries of the discussion will be sent out periodically. To subscribe to the mailing list of the IJPA Discussion Group, send an email to ijpa@psychoanalysis.org.uk with 'subscribe' in the subject line.

This Discussion Group is not restricted to psychoanalysts, but is open to all those who are seriously interested. The Editors cannot undertake to publish all the material received.

IJP Workshop on writing a psychoanalytic paper

We are organizing a workshop on Writing a Psychoanalytic Paper for the International Journal of Psychoanalysis at the International Psychoanalytic Association Congress on Saturday 1st August (in two parts at 11am-1pm and 2.30-4.30pm, with lunch break in between).

If you are interested in submitting a paper or simply ideas for a paper for this workshop these need to be sent to Dana Birksted-Breen (dana.birksted-breen@dib.me.uk) or Rachel Blass (rblass@mscc.huji.ac.il).

It is hoped that this workshop will encourage the participants to submit their papers for publication and that after attending they will be better equipped to do so.

Essential aspects of preparing a paper for publication will be discussed. These will include issues such as: what makes a paper worthy of publication, the role of the literature, the role of clinical material, how ideas may be justified, on developing and presenting one's ideas, choosing a title and writing an abstract, possible obstacles to beginning and finishing a paper and the process of submitting papers and being reviewed.

The workshop will be run by members of the editorial board of the International Journal of Psychoanalysis.

Discussions will centre around ideas for a paper submitted by some participants.
