Michael Brearley
Michael Brearley, the President of the British PsychoanalyticalSociety, is a Fellow of the Institute of Psychoanalysis and has held various roles in the British Society, including Editor of theBulletin, Chair of the External Relations Committee, and Chair of the Section for the Application of Psychoanalysis. Currently he works in private practice in London. Michael Brearley has taught courses in the Institute's psychoanalytical training, as well as for psychoanalytical psychotherapy training organizations and on the MSc course in Theoretical Psychoanalytical Studies at University College London. He has written on psychoanalysis and sport, psychoanalysis and film, on neutrality, and various aspects of psychoanalytic technique. Before becoming a psychoanalyst, he was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and a professional cricketer who captained Middlesex and England. He continues to write occasional articles on cricket for the Observer newspaper, and has lectured on leadership and motivation.
